🚩 PROBLEM

Customers hate having to spend a lot of time in line only to buy movie tickets. They wish to use an app that will let them buy tickets online, but some apps are challenging and overwhelming to use, so they choose to buy tickets in person rather than online.

💡 SOLUTION

Create a user-friendly app that makes it simple for moviegoers to order movie snacks, book seats, and buy tickets.

⚙️ DESIGN PROCESS

🔍 USER RESEARCH & COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. Teens and adults who enjoy going to movie theaters were the primary user groups identified through research.

This user group confirmed initial assumptions about Tick-it’s customers, but research also revealed that waiting in line for so long was not the only factor preventing users from purchasing movie tickets. Other user issues included overwhelming and complicated similar applications.

It was guaranteed that the elements that made it into the digital wireframe would be well-suited to address client pain points by taking the time to build paper versions of each app page. I provided users with a quick and easy way to view the most well-liked and currently playing movies on the home screen to save them time.

🧠 WHAT I LEARNED

While designing the tickit app, I discovered that the initial concepts for the app are only the beginning of the process. Usability studies and peer feedback are extremely beneficial in improving designs that I did not believe required iteration.

Designing the product in a month taught me things about Figma that I had no idea I could do. I also discovered that creating components rather than directly per screen will make my design process easier.

As the initial design phase progressed, I made sure to base screen designs and findings on the user research.

I continuously iterated my design and made three significant improvements based on the feedback of the five participants in the initial usability testing.

Users want to see the important personal details on the profile card.

Users want separate screens for payment mode and payment details.

I designed two screens such that when the user chooses a payment method, the payment information expands on those panels.

Users want to be reminded of upcoming movie dates.

Users can initially simply view the movie titles and their premiere dates. Users can now see movie details and receive notifications by clicking the “remind me” button.

After implementing the recommendations from the findings of the first usability research, I conducted a second usability test to improve the prototype. After several iterations and thorough polishing knowing that the design works, I created the mobile version of the website.
